I registered this domain in the spring of 2014. The name comes from my first name Atanas and ME. It may sound like I am an arrogant or over-confident person, but it’s just the opposite I am just a stranger looking for my place on the Web. Most people use their names for their blogs. I was thinking at one day I will need a domain to host my great projects, apps, or blog posts. The irony is that during the years I published only 4-5 posts. Deleted some and some stayed as drafts forever. I always find excuses to not write in my blog - I am not good enough, I don’t have time to write, I don’t know interesting topics to write about, I am not a native English speaker …

If I wrote 2 posts weekly, I would have had over 400 posts by now. Even with bad quality, at least I would have had writing experience, and skills: choosing good titles, header images, expressing my ideas, writing structured content… So today I have a few questions for myself:

  • Do I need a blog in the first place?
  • What to write about?
  • What will be the benefits of this blog?

Do I need a blog in the first place?

If I had some video editing skills, probably I would make a YouTube channel. It’s much easier to reach people to show your ideas or products. It’s much easier to get feedback from comments. If I am going to create something useful for people, something worthy to be public, and worthy to be shared. This is the only reason to have a blog. If I am going to write my thoughts, I can do it in my journal, offline. My thoughts don’t need to be public. Some people use podcasts to talk about their hobbies and favorite topics. It’s again not for me, my voice is not suitable for an audio podcast. I am an introvert and I express myself the best with text.

What to write about?

This is another difficult question. Most people say to write about your current skills or the new skills you want to develop, languages you want to learn, sharing ideas, experiences, travel logs. Anybody can write an average blog post with content nobody wants to read.

I want to give value. To make a website with 50 happy readers, To make an app that has 100 happy users, to make an ebook with 500 downloads … This is just an experiment, I don’t have big hopes and maybe that’s why I never took it seriously. It was something “good to have”. I would never reach my content that high to compare myself to bloggers like Tim Feriss or James Altucher. And maybe I don’t want to be as high as them. I want to discover myself, my style of writing, my favorite topics, my skills, my faults, my problems…

What will be the benefits of this blog?

The first and the most useful outcome of this blog is to practice regularly writing in English. It’s a good routine to improve my vocabulary, grammar, story-telling, and story planning, expressing ideas. I don’t think this blog will make any money, I don’t plan to add ads or to advertise any paid services - mine or others’. I will develop focus and discipline by writing more often and more valuable content.

Conclusion

Overall, I like to write. If I go deep into a topic I can write a lot until I fully express my feelings and knowledge about the subject. I hope this is not my recent urge to start taking care of my blog. I will be really glad if I continue writing at least once a week. Without making strong promises and pushing myself too hard, I think it’s doable.
